THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION DAY ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. C150.5 amended

1   The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.

2   The following is added after Schedule 11:

SCHEDULE 11.1

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION DAY

WHEREAS community foundations make a significant impact in their communities by prudently investing and managing gifts from donors that are used to support local projects and initiatives;

AND WHEREAS The Winnipeg Foundation, established in 1921, was the first community foundation in Canada;

AND WHEREAS there are 57 community foundations across Manitoba that serve 90% of all Manitobans;

AND WHEREAS community foundations in Manitoba disburse millions of dollars in grants each year that support a wide range of charitable groups and projects;

THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:

Community Foundation Day

1   In each year, April 26 is to be known as Community Foundation Day.

Coming into force

3   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
