THE OFFICIAL TIME AMENDMENT ACT

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

1   The Official Time Act is amended by this Act.

2   Section 1 is replaced with the following:

Definitions

1   The following definitions apply in this Act.

"Manitoba Standard Time" means five hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). (« heure normale du Manitoba »)

"minister" means the minister appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council to administer this Act. (« ministre »)

"official time" means the time required to be used and observed throughout the province under section 2. (« temps réglementaire »)

3(1)   Subsection 2(1) is amended by striking out "Except as provided in this section, Central Standard Time" and substituting "Manitoba Standard Time".

3(2)   The following is added after subsection 2(1):

Reference to Manitoba Standard Time

2(1.1)   The official time may be referred to as "MBT".

3(3)   Subsection 2(2) is repealed.

3(4)   Subsection 2(3) is replaced with the following:

Power to vary

2(3)   On the recommendation of the minister, the Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations varying the reckoning of Manitoba Standard Time.

Considerations re varying

2(4)   When recommending that the reckoning of Manitoba Standard Time be varied, the minister must have due regard for the applicable time zone in neighbouring jurisdictions.

Coming into force

4   This Act comes into force on a day to be fixed by proclamation.

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends The Official Time Act to discontinue the seasonal time change for daylight saving time.
