THE DRIVERS AND VEHICLES AMENDMENT ACT (LICENCE PLATES FOR VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
The Drivers and Vehicles Act is amended by this Act.
Subsection 60(1) is amended by striking out "A number plate" and substituting "Subject to subsection 60.1(1), a number plate".
The following is added after section 60 and before the centred heading that follows it:
Volunteer firefighters' number plates
The registrar must make available a number plate that bears a volunteer firefighter graphic. The graphic must include the word "VOLUNTEER" and a depiction of a firefighter Maltese Cross, and may include any other design determined by the registrar.
Eligibility for volunteer firefighters' number plates
Only a person who is a volunteer firefighter is eligible to be issued a number plate that recognizes volunteer firefighters.
The following is added after clause 68(1)(m):
(m.1) for the purpose of section 60.1, providing for the manner of determining whether a person is a volunteer firefighter;
This Act comes into force on March 1, 2013.
Explanatory Note This Bill requires the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to make a licence plate bearing the word "VOLUNTEER" and a firefighter Maltese Cross available to volunteer firefighters. |
