THE EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION AMENDMENT ACT (EDUCATION ABOUT DONATING ORGANS)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Education Administration Act is amended by this Act.

2(1)

Subsection 3(1) is amended by adding the following after clause (d):

(d.1) establish a policy framework for education about organ donation and require school boards to include education on the importance of organ donation in the curriculum of students in the senior division so that every student who attains a Manitoba high school diploma has received that education;

The following is added after subsection 3(1):

Organ donation education exemption

3(1.1)

The education policy framework established under clause (1)(d.1) must include a provision that permits students to be exempted from participating in the education on the basis of

(a) religious beliefs;

(b) cultural beliefs or prohibitions; or

(c) similar personal reasons.

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
