THE FIREFIGHTERS RECOGNITION DAY ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. C150.5 amended

1   The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.

2   The following is added after Schedule 15.1:

SCHEDULE 15.2

FIREFIGHTERS RECOGNITION DAY

WHEREAS firefighters put themselves at risk every day to protect Manitobans, their property and the environment;

AND WHEREAS firefighters in Manitoba have been killed or injured in the line of duty;

AND WHEREAS many firefighters in Manitoba are volunteers;

AND WHEREAS firefighters play an integral role in Manitoba's fire and medical emergency response system;

AND WHEREAS it is important to recognize the hard work, dedication and sacrifices of all firefighters in Manitoba;

THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:

Firefighters Recognition Day

1   In each year, May 4 is to be known as Firefighters Recognition Day.

Coming into force

3   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
