THE MANITOBA ASSISTANCE AMENDMENT ACT

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. A150 amended

1   The Manitoba Assistance Act is amended by this Act.

2   Section 1 is amended by adding the following definition:

"adult education" means

(a) vocational or other employment-related training, and

(b) literacy or other educational upgrading, including a course or program of study offered at an adult learning centre; (« éducation aux adultes »)

3   The following is added after subsection 5.4(1):

Adult education as employment enhancement measure

5.4(1.1)   When deciding on employment enhancement measures for an applicant or recipient, the director must consider whether adult education is the most appropriate employment enhancement measure.

Coming into force

4   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
