THE CANADA - UNITED KINGDOM JUDGMENTS ENFORCEMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Definition of "convention"

1           In this Act, "convention" means the Convention for the Reciprocal Recognition and Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters set out in the Schedule hereto.

Convention law in Manitoba

2           From and after January 1, 1987, the convention is in force in the province and the provisions thereof are law in the province.

Queen's Bench has jurisdiction

3           Her Majesty's Court of Queen's Bench for Manitoba is the court to which application for registration of a judgment given by a court of the United Kingdom may be made.

Regulations

4           The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make such regulations as are necessary to carry out the intent and purpose of this Act.

This Act prevails over others

5           Where there is a conflict between this Act and any other enactment, this Act prevails.
