The Government House Act

Table of contents

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Definitions.

1

In this Act

"department" means the Department of the Executive Government of the province through which the minister administers The Public Works Act; ("ministère")

"minister" means the member of the Executive Council charged by the Lieutenant Governor in Council with the administration of The Public Works Act. ("ministre")

Lieutenant Governor's residence subject to control of the minister.

2

The Government House property, comprising the residence of the Lieutenant Governor, with all the grounds, outbuildings, and premises, understood and known and enclosed as such, lying and being in The City of Winnipeg, is subject to the control of the minister; and shall, without charge for rent, be placed at the disposal of the Lieutenant Governor of the province for the time being.

Provision made for necessary expenses.

3

There shall be provided from the Consolidated Fund in each year a sum sufficient for the liquidation of all the expenses necessary for the furnishing of Government House and the keeping of the buildings and furnishings of Government House in repair, the erection and maintenance of any additions to Government House and any additional buildings, structures or fences upon the grounds of Government House, and the maintenance of the grounds of Government House and the secretarial and all other necessary office expenses of the Lieutenant Governor.

Estimates for expenses.

4

There shall be placed in the estimates for each year an amount to provide for each item in section 3; and, for such portions as are practicable, they shall be supplied by the department, by tender or other fair means of competition, upon the requisition of the Lieutenant Governor; but the minister, if he deems it expedient, may, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council, pay over, in cash, to the Lieutenant Governor, such portions of the appropriation as may appear necessary for the liquidation of items too trivial to be requisitioned for; and any such payments shall be charged against the appropriation.

Vouchers for expenditure.

5

The vouchers for all such expenditures shall be forwarded monthly to the department and filed there in the same manner as if the items had been supplied by the government as provided in section 4.
