The Coat of Arms, Emblems and the Manitoba Tartan Amendment Act

Explanatory Note

This note was written as a reader's aid to the Bill and is not part of the law.

This Bill amends The Coat of Arms, Emblems and the Manitoba Tartan Act to add the polar bear as one of the designated mammal emblems of Manitoba. The plains bison was previously designated in 2014.

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Coat of Arms, Emblems and the Manitoba Tartan Act is amended by this Act.

2(1)

Subsection 5(2.1) is amended

(a) by replacing the section heading with "Mammal emblem — plains bison"; and

(b) in the English version,

(i) by striking out "The animal" and substituting "The mammal", and

(ii) by striking out "the mammal" and substituting "a mammal".

2(2)

The following is added after subsection 5(2.1):

Mammal emblem — polar bear

5(2.1.1)

The mammal known zoologically as Ursus maritimus and commonly called the polar bear is hereby designated as a mammal emblem of Manitoba.

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
