THE NATIVE ALCOHOLISM COUNCIL OF MANITOBA INCORPORATION AMENDMENT ACT


 

(Assented to November 19, 1996)

WHEREAS The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba was incorporated by An Act to Incorporate The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba, assented to July 20, 1972;

AND WHEREAS The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba was continued as a corporation by The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba Incorporation Act, R.S.M. 1990, c. 122;

AND WHEREAS The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba has by its petition prayed that it be enacted as hereinafter set forth, and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the petition;

THEREFORE HER MAJESTY by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Native Alcoholism Council of Manitoba Incorporation Act is amended by this Act.

The title is amended by striking out "ALCOHOLISM" and substituting "ADDICTIONS".

Section 1 is amended by striking out "Alcoholism" and substituting "Addictions".

Section 2 is amended by striking out "Winnipeg" and substituting "Manitoba".

Section 3 is amended

(a) in clause (a), by striking out "native alcoholic" and substituting "Native addict";

(b) in clause (b), by striking out "native schools" and substituting "Native schools";

(c) in clause (c), by striking out "native alcoholic" and substituting "Native addict"; and

(d) by repealing clause (d) and substituting the following:

(d) a province-wide addiction program to endeavour to control and prevent all types of addiction in Indian and Métis communities.

Subsection 5(2) is repealed and the following is substituted:

Elected membership of board

5(2)

The board shall be composed of not more than nine persons, all of whom shall be elected by the members at large.

Subsection 6(1) is amended by striking out "Ten" and substituting "A majority of the".

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
