An Act to amend The Engineering Profession Act

(Assented to July 11, 1985)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Section 7 of The Engineering Profession Act, being chapter 67 of the Statutes of Manitoba, 1982-83-84 (chapter E120 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba) is amended by adding thereto, immediately after clause (b) thereof, the following clause:

(b.1) the immediate past president if not included in the members elected under clause (c);.

Subsections 8(1) and (2) of the Act are repealed and the following subsections are substituted therefor:

Elected councillors.

8(1)

The elected councillors shall be elected as provided in the by-laws from among the members for a term of 2 years and a member may be elected for a 2nd and 3rd term as councillor but is not eligible for a 4th or subsequent term of office as a councillor unless at least one term has elapsed after the expiry of the previous term of office as a councillor.

Appointment of councillors.

Appointed councillors shall be appointed by a committee composed of

(a) the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba;

(b) the immediate past president of the Association;

(c) the Commissioner of Works and Operations of The City of Winnipeg; and

(d) the Minister of Labour in the Government of Manitoba;

and each shall be appointed for a term of 2 years and may be re-appointed for a 2nd and 3rd term as councillor but is not eligible to be appointed for a 4th or subsequent term of office as a councillor unless at least 1 term has elapsed after the expiry of the previous term of office as a councillor.

Sec. 34 am.

Section 34 of the French version of the Act is amended by striking out the punctuation mark and word "-géomètre", in the 4th line thereof, and by striking out the punctuation mark and word "-géomètres", in the 5th line thereof.

Commencement of Act.

This Act comes into force on the day it receives the royal assent.
