1 The Languages of Instruction and Study Regulation, Manitoba Regulation 469/88 R, is amended by this regulation.

2 The following is added before section 1:

3 Section 1 is amended by adding the following definitions:
"Act" means The Public Schools Act; (« Loi »)
"Indigenous language" means an Indigenous language as set out in subsection 79(1.1) of the Act; (« langue autochtone »)

2 A course must not be taught in a school in either French or English in any grade from kindergarten to grade XII unless, for that grade,
(a) the course has been approved by the minister; or
(b) a proposal for the course has been approved by the minister.

6 Section 3 of the English version is amended by striking out "of study".

Proposal
6 A proposal for a course for a language of study must be submitted by a school board of a division or school district in the form approved by the minister, and its approval is subject to such terms and conditions as the minister may determine.

Coming into force
11 This regulation comes into force on the same day that The Public Schools Amendment Act (Indigenous Languages of Instruction), S.M. 2025, c. 16, comes into force.
