THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. C150.5 amended

1   The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.

2   The following is added as a Schedule:

SCHEDULE
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

WHEREAS Catholic schools operated in Manitoba for decades before Manitoba became a province in 1870;

AND WHEREAS there are currently 19 Catholic schools in Manitoba that provide education to over 5,500 kindergarten to grade 12 students in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface and the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg;

AND WHEREAS Catholic schools in Manitoba provide a safe and inclusive learning and working environment for students, staff and administrators in which all are treated with dignity and respect in the context of a caring Christian community;

AND WHEREAS Catholic schools assist every child in reaching their full social, academic, emotional and spiritual potential and foster the development of leadership, character formation and a commitment to serving others;

AND WHEREAS Catholic schools are committed to academic excellence;

AND WHEREAS Catholic Schools Week will provide an opportunity for all Manitobans to learn about and celebrate the rich history of Catholic education in Manitoba and the quality education provided by Catholic schools;

THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:

Catholic Schools Week

1   In each year, the second week of February is to be known as Catholic Schools Week.

Coming into force

3   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
