THE ELECTIONS AMENDMENT ACT (ELECTION DAY ON SATURDAY)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. E30 amended

1   The Elections Act is amended by this Act.

2   Clause 49(1)(c) is amended, in the part before subclause (i), by striking out "Tuesday" and substituting "Saturday".

3(1)   Subsection 49.1(2) is replaced with the following:

General election on first Saturday in October

49.1(2)   Subject to subsection (1),

(a) a general election must be held on Saturday, October 2, 2027, unless a general election has been held between the coming into force of this subsection and October 1, 2027; and

(b) thereafter, a general election must be held on the first Saturday in October in the fourth calendar year after election day for the last general election.

3(2)   Subsection 49.1(3) is amended by striking out "Tuesday" and substituting "Saturday".

4   Subsections 51(1) and 56(1) are amended by striking out "Monday" wherever it occurs and substituting "Friday".

5   Subsections 62(2) and (3) are amended by striking out "Tuesday" and substituting "Saturday".

6   Clauses 77(1)(a) and (b) and subsection 92(1) are amended by striking out "Monday" and substituting "Friday".

7   Subsections 125(4) and (5) are amended by striking out "Saturday" wherever it occurs and substituting "Wednesday".

8   Subsection 143(4) is amended by striking out "Saturday" and substituting "Wednesday".

9   Subsection 146(2) is amended by striking out "Friday" and substituting "Tuesday".

10   Clauses 170(3)(a) and (b) are amended by striking out "Tuesday" and substituting "Saturday".

Coming into force

11   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
