THE BUY CANADIAN ACT (GOVERNMENT PURCHASES ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. G90 amended

1   The Government Purchases Act is amended by this Act.

2(1)   Subsection 7(1) is amended by adding the following after clause (a):

(a.1) whenever possible, purchases are to be made from a Canadian supplier;

2(2)   The following is added after subsection 7(2):

Buy Canadian policy

7(3)   For the purpose of clause (1)(a.1), the government must establish a buy Canadian policy.

Canadian suppliers under buy Canadian policy

7(4)   Under the buy Canadian policy, preferential treatment may be given to a Canadian supplier when purchasing goods under the authority of this Act.

3   Section 17 is amended by adding the following after clause (c.1):

(c.2) respecting the buy Canadian policy established under subsection 7(3);

Coming into force

4   This Act comes into force on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
