THE MANITOBA SMALL BUSINESS MONTH ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
1 The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.
2 The following is added before Schedule 15.1:
SCHEDULE 15.0.2
MANITOBA SMALL BUSINESS MONTH
WHEREAS small businesses represent over 95% of all businesses in the province and are the backbone of Manitoba's economy and relied upon by all Manitobans for quality goods and services;
AND WHEREAS small businesses contribute to the prosperity and cultural richness of Manitoba, bolster communities and enhance all Manitobans' quality of life;
AND WHEREAS many trailblazing entrepreneurs have built successful small businesses despite having to overcome intersecting systemic barriers, including sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and socioeconomic disadvantage;
AND WHEREAS small businesses face significant hardships during difficult economic times;
AND WHEREAS small businesses overcome challenges and thrive due to the hard work, entrepreneurship and resilience of their owners and employees and the support of all Manitobans;
AND WHEREAS it is important to celebrate the many contributions small businesses make to their communities and the province's economy and to encourage Manitobans to support small businesses by buying local;
THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:
1 In each year, the month of May is to be known as Manitoba Small Business Month.
3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
Explanatory Note The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended to proclaim the month of May of each year as Manitoba Small Business Month. |
