THE DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA DAY ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. C150.5 amended

1   The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.

2   The following is added after Schedule 3:

SCHEDULE 3.1

DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA DAY

WHEREAS Ducks Unlimited Canada was founded in Manitoba in 1938 by conservationists and hunters to address the decline in waterfowl populations caused by the loss of habitat;

AND WHEREAS the first head office of Ducks Unlimited Canada was in Winnipeg and its first wetland restoration project was at Big Grass Marsh near Plumas;

AND WHEREAS Ducks Unlimited Canada has pursued many prominent conservation projects in Manitoba, including the preservation of important waterfowl breeding grounds in the prairie pothole region west of Neepawa;

AND WHEREAS Ducks Unlimited Canada has partnered with landowners to make farms and ranches more sustainable;

AND WHEREAS Ducks Unlimited Canada has partnered with Indigenous groups to incorporate traditional knowledge and practices into wetland and grassland conservation projects;

AND WHEREAS the national headquarters of Ducks Unlimited Canada has been located at Oak Hammock Marsh near Stonewall since 1993;

AND WHEREAS Ducks Unlimited Canada Day gives Manitobans an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the role of Ducks Unlimited Canada in conserving, restoring and managing wetlands and grasslands for the benefit of waterfowl and other wildlife and its connection with Manitoba;

THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:

Ducks Unlimited Canada Day

1   In each year, March 17 is to be known as Ducks Unlimited Canada Day.

Coming into force

3   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
