THE POLICE AND PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. C150.5 amended

1   The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.

2   The following is added after Schedule 39:

SCHEDULE 40

THE POLICE AND PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY

WHEREAS police and peace officers make valuable contributions to the safety of Manitobans;

AND WHEREAS police and peace officers take risks every day to protect Manitobans;

AND WHEREAS some police and peace officers are killed in the line of duty;

AND WHEREAS it is important to pay tribute to the hard work, dedication and sacrifices made by Manitoba's police and peace officers;

AND WHEREAS the Government of Canada has officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day;

AND WHEREAS memorial services are held in communities across the country every year to commemorate those police and peace officers who were killed in the line of duty;

THEREFORE, the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:

Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Day

1   In each year, November 30 is to be known as Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Day.

Coming into force

3   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act. November 30 of each year is proclaimed as Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
