THE REMEMBRANCE DAY AMENDMENT ACT

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. R80 amended

1   The Remembrance Day Act is amended by this Act.

2   The preamble is amended by adding the following after the third paragraph:

AND WHEREAS poppies are worn during Remembrance Day Awareness Week as a symbol of remembrance and respect;

3   The following is added after section 5:

Right to wear a poppy

5.1(1)   An employee has the right to wear a poppy while working during the seven-day period that begins on November 5 and ends on November 11 of each year.

Limit

5.1(2)   Subsection (1) does not apply if the wearing of a poppy may pose a danger or hazard to the health, safety or welfare of any person.

Coming into force

4   This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends The Remembrance Day Act to ensure that employees are entitled to wear a poppy in the workplace during the seven-day period leading up to and including Remembrance Day.
