THE FILIPINO HERITAGE MONTH ACT

WHEREAS Filipinos have chosen Manitoba to call home since the 1950s and have established their roots in the province, reaching every corner from urban centres to rural areas;

AND WHEREAS the Filipino community has become an integral part of Manitoba's social, economic, political and cultural fabric;

AND WHEREAS the Filipino language has become one of the most commonly spoken languages in Manitoba;

AND WHEREAS the Filipino community has contributed tremendously to the growth, prosperity and development of Manitoba and will continue to do so;

AND WHEREAS the appreciation of the vibrant Filipino heritage and culture and the success and strength of the community is traditionally celebrated during the month of June in Manitoba because June 12 is Philippine Independence Day;

THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Filipino Heritage Month

The month of June in each year is to be known throughout Manitoba as Filipino Heritage Month.

This Act may be referred to as chapter F52.8 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba.

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill proclaims the month of June of each year as Filipino Heritage Month.
