THE FATALITY INQUIRIES AMENDMENT ACT (OVERDOSE DEATH REPORTING)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
The following is added after section 43.1:
The chief medical examiner must prepare a statistical report for each month that sets out
(a) the number of deaths that occurred in the province during the month for which an overdose of a drug is a primary or contributing cause of death; and
(b) the type of drug, either alone or in combination with another drug, that is suspected of causing or contributing to each death reported under clause (a).
The chief medical examiner must make the report available to the public by posting it on a government website no later than three months after the end of the month.
This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
