THE MANITOBA EAST SIDE ROAD AUTHORITY AMENDMENT ACT (CONSTRUCTING FREEDOM ROAD)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Manitoba East Side Road Authority Act is amended by this Act.

Section 1 is amended by adding the following definition:

"Shoal Lake road" means the all-season road, and associated structures, that links Shoal Lake 40 First Nation to the Trans-Canada Highway. (« route de Shoal Lake »)

The following is added after section 3:

Capacity to act outside Manitoba

3.1

In respect of the Shoal Lake road, the authority has the capacity to carry out its mandate, conduct its activities and affairs and exercise its powers in a jurisdiction outside Manitoba to the extent that the laws of that jurisdiction permit.

Section 5 is amended

(a) in clauses (1)(a) and (c) and (2)(a), (b) and (c), by adding "and the Shoal Lake road" after "east side road"; and

(b) in clause (1)(b), by striking out "east side road is" and substituting "east side road and the Shoal Lake road are".

Section 18 is amended by adding "and the Shoal Lake road" after "east side road".

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill expands the mandate of the Manitoba East Side Road Authority to include building and maintaining a road linking Shoal Lake 40 First Nation to the Trans-Canada Highway.
