THE SINGLE-USE BOTTLED WATER SPENDING ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Definition

In this Act, "single-use bottled water" means a plastic container that holds 500 ml or less of water.

Every minister of the Crown responsible for a government department and every Crown corporation, agency, board and commission of the government must ensure that — where potable water is readily available in any premises used for legislative or government administrative functions — public funds are not used to purchase single-use bottled water for the provision of water in the premises.

This Act may be referred to as chapter B65 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba.

Coming into force

This Act comes into force six months after the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill requires every branch and body of government to ensure that where potable water is readily available in premises used for the legislative or administrative functions of government, public funds are not used to purchase single-use bottled water for the provision of water in the premises.
