THE ELECTORAL DIVISIONS AMENDMENT ACT (POPULATION VARIANCES FOR SOUTHERN RURAL CONSTITUENCIES)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Electoral Divisions Act is amended by this Act.

Clause 11(3)(a) is replaced with the following:

(a) where the electoral division is situated wholly south of the 53rd parallel and has an area of less than 5,000 km2, be greater than 10% more or 10% less than the quotient obtained under section 9;

(a.1) where the electoral division is situated wholly south of the 53rd parallel and has an area equal to or exceeding 5,000 km2, be greater than 15% more or 15% less than the quotient obtained under section 9; and

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends The Electoral Divisions Act to allow large southern rural constituencies to have a population that is 15% more or 15% less than the population quotient determined under the Act.
