THE MUNICIPAL AMENDMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Municipal Act is amended by this Act.

2(1)

Subsection 254(1) is amended by striking out "A municipality" and substituting "Subject to subsection (1.1), a municipality".

2(2)

The following is added after subsection 254(1):

No expropriation for economic development

254(1.1)

A municipality may not acquire land and improvements by expropriation for the purpose of economic development, which includes, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, engaging in a business-related undertaking or industry-related undertaking.

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
