THE OFFICIAL TIME AMENDMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Official Time Act is amended by this Act.

Section 2 is replaced with the following:

Description of official time

2(1)

Except as provided in this section, Central Standard Time must be used and observed throughout the province as the official time.

Daylight saving time

2(2)

Subject to subsection (3), daylight saving time — being the time one hour in advance of Central Standard Time — must be used and observed throughout the province

(a) in 2006, from 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in April until 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday in October; and

(b) in 2007 and every year after that, from 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March until 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.

Power to vary

The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations varying a period of daylight saving time established by subsection (2).

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill provides that, starting in 2007, daylight saving time will run from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

In addition, the Lieutenant Governor in Council is given the authority to make regulations changing the period of daylight saving time.
