THE ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENTIFIC PROFESSIONS AMENDMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Engineering and Geoscientific Professions Act is amended by this Act.

Section 3 is replaced with the following:

Purposes of association

The purposes of the association are to

(a) govern and regulate the practice of professional engineering and professional geoscience in Manitoba;

(b) advance the education, proficiency and competency of its members; and

(c) promote the professions of engineering and geoscience and their continued development;

in a manner that is in the public interest.

Clause 6(a) is replaced with the following:

(a) in furtherance of its purposes, acquire real or personal property by purchase, lease, gift, devise, bequest or otherwise, and dispose of that property by sale, mortgage, lease, gift or otherwise;

The following is added after clause 12(1)(z):

(z.1) establishing and governing bursaries, loans, awards and other educational incentives or programs;

(z.2) respecting providing financial or other assistance to persons for the purpose of benefiting the association, its members or the public;

(z.3) respecting means of promoting the professions of engineering and geoscience and of the association;

(z.4) regulating the association's participation with others having purposes consistent with those of the association;

Clause 12(1)(aa) is amended by striking out "Act" and substituting "Act, or in the management, operation and well-being of the association".

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill enhances the ability of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists to promote the professions of engineering and geoscience and to give financial assistance to others.
