THE BLIND AND DEAF PERSON'S MAINTENANCE AND EDUCATION ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Definition

In this Act, "minister" means the member of the Executive Council charged by the Lieutenant Governor in Council with the administration of this Act.

Maintenance and education

The Government of Manitoba may expend such moneys of the province as it deems expedient for the maintenance and education of blind persons and deaf persons who reside in the province and have the right to attend public school under The Public Schools Act.

Extra-provincial institutions

Subject to the approval of the minister, blind persons and deaf persons who reside in the province and have the right to attend public school under The Public Schools Act may be sent to, and maintained in, institutions outside Manitoba.

Clothing may be furnished

The minister may furnish such clothing as he deems expedient for blind persons and deaf persons placed in an institution as provided in this Act, and unable to provide their own clothing.

Appointment of staff

Such officers and employees as may be necessary to supervise the transportation of blind persons and deaf persons to and from institutions outside Manitoba may be appointed as provided in The Civil Service Act.
