The Service and Therapy Animal Day Act

Explanatory Note

This note is a reader's aid and is not part of the law.

This Act proclaims May 20 in each year as Service and Therapy Animal Day.

(Assented to June 2, 2017)

WHEREAS service animals provide important assistance to persons with a wide range of disabilities and impairments;

AND WHEREAS therapy animals offer social and emotional support in a variety of therapeutic settings and provide companionship to residents in hospitals, personal care homes and other care facilities;

AND WHEREAS there is a need to recognize the important work provided by service animals and therapy animals;

THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Service and Therapy Animal Day

1           In each year, May 20 is to be known throughout Manitoba as Service and Therapy Animal Day.

2           This Act may be referred to as chapter S88 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba.

Coming into force

3           This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
