The Agri-Food and Rural Development Council Act

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
1 The following definitions apply in this Act.
"council" means the Agri-Food and Rural Development Council established in section 2. (« Conseil »)
"department" means the department of government over which the minister presides. (« ministère »)
"minister" means the minister appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council to administer this Act. (« ministre »)
2 The "Agri-Food and Rural Development Council" is established.
3 The council's responsibilities are
(a) to provide the minister with innovative ideas and options to help the department develop long-term strategies for capturing opportunities, taking advantage of Manitoba's competitive advantage in the agriculture and food sectors, and working toward vibrant rural communities;
(b) to examine the agricultural and rural economies and explore new ideas for economic growth and partnerships;
(c) to inform the department's long-term strategic planning process;
(d) to provide the minister with advice and recommendations on matters referred to it by the minister; and
(e) any other responsibilities given to it by the minister.
4(1) The council is to consist of an unlimited number of persons appointed by the minister for any term the minister specifies.
4(2) The minister must designate two council members as co-chairs of the council.
4(3) The council may determine its own practice and procedure.
5 The council is to meet at the call of the co-chairs.
6 The minister may approve the payment of remuneration and reasonable expenses to the council members out of money appropriated under an Act of the Legislature for the purposes of this Act.
7(1) The council must report annually to the minister about its affairs and activities.
7(2) The minister must include a summary of the council's affairs and activities in the department's annual report.
8 The Agricultural Productivity Council Act, R.S.M. 1987, c. A20, is repealed.
9 This Act may be referred to as chapter A43 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba.
10 This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
