The Criminal Injuries Compensation Amendment Act

(Assented to July 27, 1993)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Act is amended by this Act.

2(1)

Subsection 23(1) is amended by adding the following after clause (c):

(d) providing that benefits determined under subsection (3) are to be adjusted by an indexing factor specified in the regulations, and governing when adjustments are to be made.

2(2)

Subsection 23(3) is amended by striking out everything after "except that" and substituting the following:

(a) after June 30, 1993, a benefit that is paid or payable under this subsection shall not be adjusted, following its determination, by any indexing factor referred to in The Workers Compensation Act; and

(b) no payment shall be made with respect to medical and hospital benefits that are payable by any public or private scheme.

Subsection 24(1) is repealed.

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on June 30, 1993, and if it receives royal assent after that date, this Act is retroactive and is deemed to have come into force on June 30, 1993.
