THE WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HEALTH AMENDMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
The Workplace Safety and Health Act is amended by this Act.
The following is added after section 4 and before the centred heading that follows it:
An employer must not require an employee to wear a specific style or design of footwear, such as high-heeled shoes.
Subsection (1) does not apply
(a) if the requirement is related to reasonable hygiene or safety concerns in the workplace; or
(b) if the employee is a model or is performing in a movie, television production, play, musical or dance production, ice skating show or other similar type of production.
This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
Explanatory Note This Bill amends The Workplace Safety and Health Act to prohibit employers from requiring employees to wear specific styles of footwear, such as high-heeled shoes. |
