THE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS CODE AMENDMENT ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

C.C.S.M. c. E110 amended

1           The Employment Standards Code is amended by this Act.

2           Section 58 is amended

(a) in the part before clause (1)(a) and in subsection (2), by striking out "37" and substituting "63"; and

(b) in subsection (3), by striking out "not later than the first anniversary of the date" and substituting "within 78 weeks after the day".

3           Clauses 59.1(1)(a) and (b) are amended by striking out "37 weeks" and substituting "63 weeks".

Coming into force

4           This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends The Employment Standards Code to increase an employee's entitlement to unpaid parental leave from 37 weeks to 63 weeks. The period within which that leave must be commenced is extended from one year to 78 weeks.
