THE BROOKSIDE CEMETERY RECOGNITION ACT

WHEREAS the first interment at Brookside Cemetery took place in 1878;

AND WHEREAS Brookside Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Manitoba, with more than 200,000 people interred on its grounds;

AND WHEREAS the Field of Honour at Brookside Cemetery is the largest and oldest military interment site in Canada;

AND WHEREAS Brookside Cemetery is the final resting place of prominent citizens, politicians and athletes as well as people from all walks of life;

AND WHEREAS Brookside Cemetery is the site of numerous remembrance services each year;

THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

Provincial cemetery

Brookside Cemetery is given honourary recognition as Manitoba's provincial cemetery.

Definition

In this Act, "Brookside Cemetery" means the cemetery located at 3001 Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg.

This Act may be referred to as chapter B90.5 of the Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba.

Coming into force

This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill recognizes Brookside Cemetery as Manitoba's provincial cemetery.
