THE CROWN APPOINTMENT REVIEW ACT (VARIOUS ACTS AMENDED)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
The Manitoba Hydro Act is amended by this section.
The following is added after section 5:
Appointment referred to committee of the Assembly
Before appointing a person as a member of the board, the President of the Executive Council must refer the proposed appointment to a committee of the Assembly. The committee must include at least one representative from every political party that is represented in the Assembly.
Person to be publicly interviewed by committee
The committee must interview the person in public to determine whether he or she is well qualified to serve on the board.
Each member of the committee must be given notice, at least seven days in advance, of the date, time and place for holding the interview.
Committee is to provide advice
After the interview, the committee must advise the President of the Executive Council whether the person is well qualified to serve on the board.
Before making the appointment, the President of the Executive Council must consider the advice of the committee.
The Liquor Control Act is amended by this section.

Person to be publicly interviewed by committee
The committee must interview the person in public to determine whether he or she is well qualified to serve as a director of the corporation.
Each member of the committee must be given notice, at least seven days in advance, of the date, time and place for the interview.
After the interview, the committee must advise the President of the Executive Council whether the person is well qualified to serve as a director.
In deciding whether the appointment should be made, the President of the Executive Council must consider the advice of the committee.
This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
