THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AMENDMENT ACT (VETERANS' LICENCE PLATES)

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
The Highway Traffic Act is amended by this Act.
Subsection 4.24(2) is amended by striking out "A number plate" and substituting "Subject to subsection (2.1), a number plate".
The following is added after subsection 4.24(2):
The registrar must make available a number plate that bears a veteran graphic. The veteran graphic must include the word "VETERAN" and a depiction of a poppy, and may include any other design determined by the registrar.
Eligibility for veteran's number plate
Only a person who is a soldier as defined in The Soldiers' Taxation Relief Act is eligible to be issued a number plate that bears a veteran graphic.
The following is added after clause 4.31(1)(o):
(o.1) for the purpose of subsection 4.24(2.2), providing for the manner of determining whether a person is a soldier;
This Act comes into force on March 1, 2005.
Explanatory Note This Bill requires the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to make a licence plate bearing a veterans graphic available to soldiers. |
