CROP RESIDUE BURNING AUTHORIZATION (MR 77/93)

 

Before you burn, please consider there may be alternative uses for your straw.  Caution is advised when burning crop residues. 

 

RED RIVER/SOUTHEAST ZONE

 

For Monday, October 6, 2008, daytime crop residue burning is NOT AUTHORIZED, except by permit, in the municipalities of Rosser, Headingley, St. François Xavier, Cartier, Macdonald, Ritchot, Taché, Springfield, East St. Paul, and West St. Paul.  Crop residue burning is AUTHORIZED in all other municipalities in the RED RIVER/SOUTHEAST ZONE.  Burning in the authorized municipalities may begin at 11:00 a.m. and all fires must be completely extinguished by 6:30 p.m. 

 

SOUTHWEST, NORTHWEST and WESTLAKE/INTERLAKE ZONES

 

For Monday, October 6, 2008, daytime crop residue burning is AUTHORIZED in all municipalities in the SOUTHWEST, the NORTHWEST and the WESTLAKE/INTERLAKE ZONES.  Burning may begin at 11:00 a.m. and all fires must be completely extinguished by 6:30 p.m. 

 

Nighttime burning of crop residues is banned year-round.

 

Safe burning practices, including adequate fire-guarding and proper supervision, must be followed.

 

Smoke from any crop residue fire must NOT obscure any public roadway or create problems for neighboring residents.

 

For information about applying for a burning permit, please contact your nearest GO Office.  Note that burning in the “Burning Permit Areas” requires a permit issued by Manitoba Conservation.  Permits issued by the City of Winnipeg are required for burning within the boundaries of the City.  Any permits issued by other local authorities are also required.
