Farm Products Marketing Council
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM/SERVICE
The Farm Products Marketing Council is established pursuant to The Farm Products
Marketing Act. The purpose of the Act is to provide for the promotion,
regulation and management of the production and marketing of farm products in
Manitoba.
The Council is responsible for advising the Minister of all matters relating to
the establishment, operation and supervision of boards and commissions. The
Council also enforces the regulations and supervises the work of inspectors.
The Council is responsible for policy development and any legislation or
regulation changes related to regulated marketing. It maintains a close working
relationship with the boards, commissions and industry representatives.
The following boards are established under the Act and supervised by the
Council:
• Manitoba Beekeepers’ Association,
• Manitoba Cattle Enhancement Council,
• Manitoba Chicken Producers,
• Manitoba Egg Producers,
• Dairy Farmers of Manitoba,
• Manitoba Pork Council,
• Manitoba Turkey Producers, and
• Peak of the Market
• Keystone Potato Producers Association
The Council also serves as an appellant body for any person affected by a
regulation, order or decision made by a board or commission. The Council may
hold a hearing, after which the Council can either dismiss the appeal or direct
the board or commission to repeal or rescind the regulation, order or decision
made by a board or commission.
WHO QUALIFIES
Any group of producers may apply to the Council for the establishment of a board
or commission.
AVAILABLE BENEFITS/ASSISTANCE
The Council will provide assistance to any group of producers who wish to
establish a board or commission to promote, regulate or manage a farm product in
Manitoba.
