Food Safety Program, for Processors and Distributors
PURPOSE
This program encourages non-federally registered food processors to adopt
and use MAFRI-approved, post-farm food safety and traceability programs. The
goal is to increase understanding and use food safety and traceability practices
within the food processing sector.
WHO QUALIFIES
Eligible applicants include:
- non-federally registered food processing facilities (except fish
and seafood) that operate legally in Manitoba
- food transporters and warehouse businesses (eligible for traceability
program only)
- food product contact packaging companies (eligible for traceability
program only)
- select companies that research food safety and traceability
Applicants must work with a Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives
(MAFRI) representative to submit an application. All applications must include a
copy of the operating permit or licence, a gap-assessment consent form, a credit
checking release form and a letter of management commitment.
ELIGIBLE COSTS
Funds are available for the food safety program to food
processing applicants for:
- MAFRI recognized Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) program of up to
$15,000
- MAFRI recognized Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program
of up to $20,000 with additional funding of $3,000 for each additional HACCP
plan up to a maximum of three additional HACCP plans
Funds are available for the traceability program and applications are subject
to MAFRI approval:
- slaughter houses could be eligible for funding of up to $10,000
- all other food processors could be eligible to a maximum of $4,000
Funding can be used for identification, registry, software, training and
other expenses traceability system requirements.
