Food Safety Program, for Farms
PURPOSE
This program supports on-farm awareness and implementation of food safety,
biosecurity and traceability programs for farmers and their suppliers.
WHO QUALIFIES
Farmers, their suppliers, assembly yards and livestock haulers are eligible.
Farmers are individuals, partnerships and any operations incorporated under
federal or provincial laws. Eligible farmers can own, rent, lease,
manage or control agricultural land to produce food commercially in Manitoba.
Farmers’ suppliers are legal operations that supply farmers with goods or
services that could affect food safety, biosecurity or traceability.
Assembly yards are legal operations that own or operate animal assembly yards
in Manitoba and are registered with the provincial premises,
animal-identification database.
Livestock haulers are legal operations that own or operate a livestock
transport business in Manitoba.
Successful applicants must meet the following requirements:
- complete a before-and-after survey describing their on-farm food safety,
traceability or biosecurity programs’ business activities
- be registered in the provincial agri-food, premises, animal-identification
and food inspection databases where applicable
- take part in an on-farm food safety, traceability and biosecurity program
tailored to their operations
ELIGIBLE COSTS Applicants are eligible for up to 90 per cent of the total cost of eligible
equipment and up to 90 per cent of training, implementation and the first audit
costs from approved suppliers. Funds are available for, but not limited to:
- materials/supplies for producers’ manuals
- consulting fees for implementation of recognized federal/provincial
programs
- rental/lease fees for facilities that affect food safety program
implementation
- business travel/accommodation
- staff training
- system audit/certification fees
- financial audit and performance reports required by the province
