Programs and Services

The Northern Agriculture Program

PURPOSE
This program funds innovative projects that provide solutions to the challenges of producing healthy foods in northern Manitoba. Practical support is provided to expand agriculture and food production to increase availability and reduce the cost of fresh, healthy foods for northern residents.

WHO QUALIFIES

  • northern Manitoba residents
     
  • northern agriculture producers
     
  • northern partnerships, co-operatives and corporations
     
  • northern band councils
ELIGIBLE COSTS
Funds are available for sustainable, northern agriculture development that increases local food production and processing in Manitoba. Eligible costs include:
  • food production systems
  • for processing and food preservation methods
  • new options in crop and livestock production
  • new production systems that extend the growing season (ex: greenhouses, hydroponics)
  • new marketing systems that increase regional accessibility and affordability for northern-produced foods
